JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV- The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has officially issued a nine-point Halal resolution intended to advance the halal industry in Indonesia and be ready to go global.
One of the points of the resolution is an effort to facilitate cheap, easy and professional halal certification.
“Realizing a halal certification process that is easy, cheap, professional, with integrity including upholding ethics,” reads the second point of the world halal resolution quoted from the official MUI website on Thursday (6/16/2022).
“We support halal certification according to Sharia Governance standards, namely the MUI fatwa, which follows international quality standards for Halal Certification Institutions and complies with international quality standards for halal testing laboratories, to increase the acceptability of halal products in global trade,” added the second point of the resolution.
In addition, MUI also encourages halal tourism and incentives for MSMEs engaged in the halal industry.
Encourage adequate incentives for halal industry business actors including MSMEs and Halal Industrial Areas to stimulate the growth of export-oriented products and halal tourism industry actors,” reads the halal resolution number seven.
MUI itself held the Congress in Bangka Belitung starting on June 14, 2022 and was opened by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin. Officially, the congress entitled the 2022 International Halal Congress was officially closed on Wednesday night (6/15/2022).
Secretary of the 2022 KIH Steering Committee, KH Rafiqul Umam Ahmad, said that this Resolution broadly contains an agenda and encouragement to policy makers related to the halal industry and tourism, both locally, nationally, and internationally.
“This resolution is expected to be able to encourage and bind the drivers and policy makers of the halal industry and tourism,” he said Wednesday night.

Here are the nine points of the World Halal Resolution resulting from the 2022 International Halal Congress:
- Increasing the acceleration of the development of the Halal Industry and Halal Tourism as important pillars of national and global economic growth post-pandemic. One of them is through a joint movement to make Indonesia the World’s Leading Halal Producer starting in 2024, ranking first in the Halal Food sector on the Global Islamic Economy Indhex in 2023, and ranking first on the Global Muslim Travel Indhex in 2023 and achieving a top 10 ranking in Muslim-friendly tourism in the Global Islamic Economy Report 2023.
- Realizing a halal certification process that is easy, cheap, professional, and has integrity, including upholding ethics. We support halal certification according to Sharia Governance standards, namely the MUI fatwa, which follows international quality standards for Halal Certification Institutions and complies with international quality standards for halal testing laboratories, to increase the acceptance of halal products in global trade.
- Agree to carry out a Joint Movement between the Government and the community in improving the guidance, assessment and supervision of the competence and professionalism of halal certification governance both at the national and international levels.
- Improve the competence of human resources through the development of market-oriented curriculum for the Halal Industry and Halal Tourism, at all levels of education, especially universities, as a real contribution from the Education sector to support Indonesia as the World Halal Center.
- Encourage the strengthening of collaboration and synergy between supply elements in the halal ecosystem consisting of community participation, halal industry, commercial finance and social finance in order to obtain strong connectivity and dependency to increase added value and accelerate the growth of competitive halal products oriented to the national and export markets.
- Encourage innovation and the growth of the creative economy sector that is adaptive to digital technology at every stage of the halal value chain to accelerate and strengthen the integration of the elements of the Halal Industry and Sharia Financial Economy ecosystems.
- Encourage adequate incentives for halal industry business actors including MSMEs and Halal Industrial Areas to stimulate the growth of export-oriented products and halal tourism industry actors.
- Encourage the acceleration of the development of Halal Tourism by maintaining inclusivity as the main stream of Tourism destinations for various tourists through strategic and comprehensive actions by stakeholders (Academics, Business, Community, Government & Media) using global benchmarks and best practices in the tourism industry, especially the halal tourism industry, so that sustainable halal tourism is created nationally and globally.
